11 -- a mother waiting for answers as today police swarm a san francisco home. digging for clues in the kevin collins. who went missing in 1984. here's a map to show a couple of key locations in this case. on the day kevin went missing, he left basketball practice at saint agnes high school in the haight. he was last seen at oak street and masonic. today -- bones were found in a home on masonic. near page street. kron-4's reggie kumar begins our live team coverage in san francisco. reggie, what's the latest? >> reporter: the bones were discovered on the masonic st. but they are from an animal, not a human. san francisco investigators say cadavar dogs indicated the presence of possible human remains under the concrete floor of this home near the 1100 block of masonic street. several people spent most of tuesday removing large chunks of concrete, and dirt in order to locate the remains. once they were found, the medical examiner determined they were animal bones. so they may not be linked to kevin collins, who disappeared in 1984.police say the resident who lives in the home is not a

of tearing down the stub end of 280 in san francisco. mayor ed lee is talking about it with hopes of creating a new neighborhood and speeding up the arrival of high-speed rail service downtown. the idea is to knock down i-280 before 16th street - eliminating the ramps both at sixth and brannan streets and at fourth and king streets. it would be replaced by a street-level boulevard. the plan also calls for clearing out the adjacent rail yard to make way for a high-speed rail line. >> if you drive a toyota prius or a honda civic hybrid, there are still *thousands of green carpool stickers available. the stickers allow drivers to legally drive solo in california diamond lanes. just over nine-thousand green decals have been issued, which is well below the cap of 40-thousand. the carpool sticker program will end january 1, 2015, and its unclear whether it will be extended. while future exploratorium field trips will take place at the museum's new home at pier 15 in san francisco, one group of students will take over the recently vacated space in the palace of fine arts for an entire schoo

boy who vanished in san francisco. tonight -- we know, investigators found something in the cold case that caught their attention. it brought them back to a house on masonic avenue. a home that investigators searched when kevin collins first disappeared in 19-84. the exact nature of that tip or clue. is still part of the sealed search warrant. tonight. kron-4 spoke with kevin's mother.s he shares her theory of what she thinks could have happened. >> i always thought that a witness saw a newsman talking to my eighth little boy . maybe he thought the above boiler was torn to protect them and maybe the man lured maybe he thought that the should never have been on that corner. and maybe that's tall blond man with the black dog could have lured kevin with the dog... >> investigators are testing the animal bones. to make sure it is not kevin. the lead investigator who handled the case when it broke in 19-84. says during his search he uncovered tunnels under haight street. but he is not sure if current investigators will again. >> it has been 24 years since dublin teenager. ilene misheloff.

freeway camera in downtown san francisco. more cars on the road. allow yourself a little bit of extra time if you're headed out to work this morning. as we take a look at those numbers, it is another cold start. mid-30s out the door in santa rosa. it looks like vallejo, you're waking up or staying up to low 40s. a split decision, 30s by the dark purple. this is where we'll be in the 30s. afternoon highs, two colors, light blue and again that purple. i looks like it's a split decision. as we break down those numbers for you, a pretty similar conditions compared to yesterday. 53 in san jose. to the east bay we go. we'll see mostly sunny conditions. pittsburgh, we climb into the upper 40s. as we head to the north bay, a dry day ahead of us for the first day of 2013. upper 40s in dalely city, overall mild, tranquil, quiet conditions here in the weather department. look forward to pretty cold mornings. in fact, a freeze warning is in effect headed into wednesday. as we look ahead, however, we do have the chance of showers, saturday probably for most of the bay area. then pleasant con

, jeff. >> we're still more than a week away from the super bowl, but san francisco city officials are already working on plans to keep crowds from getting out of control, if the 49ers win. kron 4's charles clifford has details on where things stand now. >> reporter: after the giants won the world series back in october, there were large crowds celebrating all over san francisco, things really got rowdy around mission and 22nd where people were blocking the street and lighting fires. there was also a large crowd and a bonfire outside att park and along market street a muni bus was vandalized and set on fire. the city, of course, is hoping to avoid a repeat of scenes like these if the 49ers win the super bowl. after the giants world series win, city officials learned a few things. for one, revelers started fires using garbage from near by trash cans. before the super bowl, the city will have the garbage picked up to literally remove fuel from the fires. muni may also make changes to bus and train routes along market street to avoid a repeat of this scene. the dpt will also be rerouting

night. breaking into her san francisco home. assaulting and attempting to rape her. police say 25-year-old jovan jones was eventually tracked down. but as kron four's philippe djegal reports. that may not have happened so quickly if not for a good samaratan getting involved. >> reporter: this is where the san francisco police department says. a 26-year-old woman was assaulted saturday night. alta street. a small road on telegraph hill with no outlets. at night. the woman was entering her home. when 25-year-old jovan jones of marin city snuck up on her. forced his way into the home and threw the woman to the floor. police say he demanded money and some her stuff. then, threatened to kill her and assaulted her. police say someone outside of the home saw what was happening. and called 9-11. when police arrived. investigators say jones jumped off the balcony and ran off. less than an hour and a half later. with help of a california highway patrol helicopter. police tracked jones down a few blocks away from the victim's home on green street. jones was booked into san francisco county jail o

washington for the inauguration. that includes the mayors of san jose, san francisco and oakland, who are already at the capitol for the u-s conference of mayors. they're all extending their stay to witness president obama take the oath of office. and as we mentioned, kron four will carry tomorrow's public ceremony live. its scheduled to start at 8- 30 monday morning. and we'll also have the inaugural parade live on our 24-7 bay area news channel - starting at 10-35. a developing story out of the east bay this morning. where there's been a fatal shooting outside the bayfair bart station in san leandro. police say a 40-year old man was killed. and a woman was also hit by gunfire saturday afternoon. authorities expect the woman to recover. the attack happened in broad daylight, and authorities want to reassure transit riders about their safety. >> we are always concerned whether or not anny shooting happens, on bart property or not. this is not a typical occurrence. >> police have detained one suspect in the shooting. they're also reviewing interviewing witnesses. >> now to the big showdown
